Vacancies for Lay Members for the Planning Panel

Are you looking to play an active part in your community?

Are you able to scrutinise and evaluate material to make independent, balanced and fair decisions?

We currently have one or more vacancies for members to serve on the Planning Panel.

Lay tribunal members provide valuable knowledge and experience to help ensure tribunal decisions are fair, balanced and well informed.  Your role includes doing preparatory work in advance of hearings by reading the papers provided; asking questions of the parties and any expert witnesses during the hearing; and taking an active part in the deliberations and decision-making.

The Land Planning Development (Guernsey) Law, 2005 established the Planning Panel and Tribunal.  The Tribunal was established to consider appeals from property owners against planning decisions made by the Development & Planning Authority (including the refusal of planning permission, the issuing of a Compliance or Completion Notice, the addition of a building or monument to the List of Protected Buildings and Monuments and the protection of a tree under a Tree Protection Order).

Further information

No previous experience, although for the Planning Panel a familiarity with reading plans would be beneficial, is required for these posts and Guernsey-based training will be provided to enable you to undertake your duties. Please note that the next training session will take place from 12 to 14 June 2018 (two-and-a-half-day course) and new members will be asked to attend this course if possible. An allowance is paid for training, and for days when the Panel sits.

Interested parties are asked to submit an expression of interest detailing their professional and other relevant experience together with a covering letter indicating their reasons for applying for this position.  Any appointment will be subject to the approval by the States of Deliberation on the recommendation of the sponsoring Committees for each Panel.

This is a real opportunity to contribute positively to our localcommunity. If you have any questions or would like a copy of the information pack please contact:
